Boomer gun counter Fudds will tell you all types of lies when you’re standing there. “Two World Wars,” “That gun will blow their head smoove off,” “A .44 mag will knock them clean off of their feet.” Some of these are so predictable they’re part of my bingo card when I walk into certain shops. However, there’s one piece of advice universally told at gun counters, and it holds some real truth: when you rack a 12-gauge pump shotgun in the middle of the night, it’s a pretty recognizable sound. There’s something that just feels right about a 12-gauge pump shotgun. We wanted to create the best mix of an old-fashioned police shotgun with the modern build quality you would expect from the world’s best pump shotguns at Mossberg.
That’s where we got the Blunderbuss. It’s an old school 14-inch short scattergun with as much style as it has functionality. This gun looks like it belongs wedged next to the seat of a Crown Victoria while narcotics detectives are hot on the trail of their local bandito. This is built with the same walnut furniture as Mossberg’s popular Retrograde lineup, and we’re doing a limited run of these exclusively through Gallenson’s to celebrate their 110th anniversary.
We wanted this gun to be built so your grandkids’ grandkids would be able to defend their household with it, so we built it on Mossberg’s bulletproof 590A1 platform. We kept this gun as simple as possible, just like our older generation did it. The receivers are also drilled and tapped so you can add some accessories if you choose. Engraved on the side are the Gallenson’s and FE logos for the collaboration project.
Is this the fastest shooting defensive SBS you can buy right now? Not necessarily. Will this gun work in any possible condition you put it through? Yes. Will you have the most style points next time you pull it out at the range or in a class? Undoubtedly. The Blunderbuss is everything you need and nothing you don’t.
